Gormenghast Trilogy, 2007 Vintage edition He served in the second World War in the Royal Artillery and later with the Royal Engineers. I made slow and steady progress through the first half of book 1 (Titus Groan). I first had a go at reading the Gormenghast trilogy about 24 years ago, at the age of 19, when I was reading a lot of science and fantasy fiction. It was during his service that he began working on Titus Groan. Picking up the weighty tome known as The Gormenghast Trilogy, I was all for reading what I hear is one of the most critically divisive books (or series of books, if you look at it that way) of the 20th century. Anyway, the co-incidence that i referred to at the beginning lay in the fact that I finally started the novel Titus Groan, the first book in the Gormenghast trilogy by Mervyn Peake, a few months ago. The reason why it is so fat is because it is all three books of the trilogy in one. It's still quite mild, but I just though I would warn you. I borrowed a large book from the library today: “The Gormenghast Trilogy” by Mervyn Peake. A series by Mervyn Peake made of the novels Titus Groan, Gormenghast, and Titus Alone and the lesser-known novella "Boy In Darkness", which take place sometime before the second book.
